Klein Bonaire: a paradise island off the coast of Bonaire

Off the coast of Bonaire lies a small island called Klein Bonaire. A day trip to this stunning island is a must during your stay. Klein Bonaire is known for its pristine nature, white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters. It is also a nesting ground for sea turtles, which is why this protected nature reserve has no facilities. If you plan to visit, be sure to bring your own food and drinks.

Take the water taxi from Kralendijk to Klein Bonaire

Klein Bonaire is about 800 meters off the coast of Bonaire. To get there, take the water taxi, which operates year-round and departs from Kralendijk. Every morning from 9:15 AM, a boat leaves hourly from Karel’s Beach Bar. Return trips from Klein Bonaire to the mainland are available every hour from 10:45 AM. Reservations are possible but not required. To fully enjoy the island in peace, it’s best to depart early in the day.

Diving, snorkeling, or picnicking: enjoy it all on Klein Bonaire

Klein Bonaire offers plenty of activities, including diving, snorkeling, picnicking, birdwatching, or simply relaxing on the powdery white sand of No Name Beach, one of Bonaire’s most beautiful beaches. If you want to explore the underwater world with children, consider booking an excursion on a semi-submarine. This boat has a glass bottom, allowing you to observe colorful fish, the famous black corals, and sea turtles up close. If you’d like to see flamingos, Bonaire’s iconic birds, head to one of the three small salt ponds on Klein Bonaire. These areas are home to large flocks of flamingos, making them an ideal spot for wildlife enthusiasts.

Don’t forget to purchase a Nature Tag

Klein Bonaire and the surrounding sea are part of the Bonaire National Marine Park. If you plan to visit Klein Bonaire or take part in any water activities, you are required to purchase a Nature Fee. This can be done through the STINAPA website, at dive shops, hotels, or at the STINAPA headquarters at Barcadera 10 in Kralendijk. The funds collected from Nature Fee purchases go toward preserving Bonaire’s natural beauty. The tag is valid for one year, so you only need to buy it once for all your activities.
