Bonaire is a top destination for windsurfers, and for good reason. Few places in the world offer such consistently perfect conditions as Bonaire. Windsurfers from all over the globe travel here for an unforgettable windsurfing vacation. When you stay at Windhoek Luxury Resort Bonaire, you’ll be surrounded by the island’s best surf spots. Plus, several gear rental shops are just around the corner.
If you want to windsurf on Bonaire, Lac Bay—also known as Sorobon Beach—is the place to be. This 8 km² lagoon on the island’s southeast coast offers steady, onshore winds year-round, making it one of the top windsurfing locations in the world. Besides its perfect wind conditions, Lac Bay is also a stunning natural area. Even if you don’t surf yourself, it’s a joy to watch windsurfers glide across the water. Important tip: Lac Bay is best accessed by car. We recommend renting a car for convenience. If you opt for the Toyota Hilux 2022, you’ll have plenty of space to store all your windsurfing gear.
New to windsurfing? Bonaire is the ideal place to learn. Several windsurf schools on the island offer lessons for all skill levels. We highly recommend Jibe City, where experienced instructors provide top-quality lessons at competitive rates. Whether you’ve never stepped on a board before or you’re looking to refine your technique, they have courses suited to your level. Good to know: Windsurfing is a sport where you can progress quickly. After just a few lessons, you’ll be able to hit the water on your own. That’s why we suggest booking your lessons at the beginning of your trip, so you’ll have time to venture out independently as your skills improve.
The waters around Bonaire are part of a protected marine area. Since conserving the island’s natural beauty is a top priority, all visitors who engage in watersports must pay a Nature Fee. This one-time, annual payment is required before you can participate in any water activities. The funds collected go toward conservation efforts that help preserve Bonaire’s marine ecosystems. You can purchase your Nature Fee on the STINAPA website or at various windsurfing schools on Bonaire. Need assistance? Feel free to stop by Windhoek Luxury Resort’s reception—we’re happy to help!
